Fishing Base

Pole fishing - just like the professionals!

Pole fishing for coarse fish is experiencing a revival. For some time, it has been a fishing style reserved for specialists. Many of the tips and tricks were kept secret. These days, however the pleasure of this fishing style is open to all.

Managing rods of between 10 and 14 metres can be quite a challenge on its own and will take a little getting used to. Earlier rods were fully telescopic; these days it is only the last 2 or 3 tip sections that are telescopic. The remainder of the rod can be extended or shortened (shipping backwards and forwards) to fish at a variety of distances.

For finer fishing, elastics can be used. Elastics allow the use of fine traces and cushion the flight of harder fighting fish. Fitting an elastic is simplicity itself. The elastic is fixed at the base of the tip sections with a bung and the elastic runs through the inside of these sections. A Teflon bush is fitted to the end to reduce friction. The elastics are available in a variety of strengths, allowing you to vary your rig to match fish species and water conditions.

Further items of equipment are available to aid in successful angling sessions. A lot of thought should be given to acquiring a seat box. When pole fishing, it is necessary to have you tackle items close at hand. There are a number of special platforms and seat boxes which have mounting facilities for such items as feed trays, maggot boxes and even umbrella holders. The use of a pole roller will greatly assist you and also goes a long way to preventing breakage, as well as keeping the pole sections off the floor when shipping backwards and forwards. Before you start angling, there are several aids to bait preparation: space saving, folding bait buckets; special bait sieves, to help prepare slow dispersing feeds; and worm scissors, to make an attractive ground bait rich in worm bits.

As you can see, there are plenty of aids to make pole fishing simpler. For novices, or those wishing to extend their tackle, we have a completely new programme that is specially developed for pole and competition anglers.

The KOGHA COMPETITION PLUS programme has everything you might need to become a successful pole angler. The Kogha poles in particular offer superb value for money.

With a bit of practise, pole fishing can be an extremely enjoyable and rewarding form of fishing resulting in large weights of fish being captured. We wish you a lot of success, and a great deal of fun!
